On December 15, Ambassador Mahoney and the Minister of Decentralization and Local Governance Alassane Seidou officially launched MuniWASH, a five-year, $18 million activity that will improve water, sanitation, and hygiene services in underserved urban areas in Benin and Côte d’Ivoire. Taking place at the Benin National Association of Communes in Abomey-Calavi, the event welcomed mayors from the eight communes selected for MuniWASH in Benin to sign Memoranda of Understanding with Tetra Tech, USAID’s implementing partner. MuniWASH will work with the eight municipalities, public utilities, and the private sector to improve access to clean water, latrines, handwashing facilities, and waste management for 75,000 people in Benin.
